The Customer

Nilsen, Fuseco & Australia’s Leading Construction Contractors

This project brought together several key players in the construction and commissioning of Microsoft’s next-generation Australian data centres. Electrical contractor Nilsen was engaged by principal contractor Kapitol Group, while Fuseco partnered with SES to supply transformers to Stowe, working under principal contractors AW Edwards and BESIX Watpac.

These customers operate in some of the most demanding commercial and infrastructure environments. Their shared goal: deliver compliant, robust power infrastructure for Microsoft’s high-security, high-uptime facilities. With deadlines tight and stakes high, they turned to SES.

The Challenge

Hyperscale Data Centres Need Hyperspecific Power Solutions

Microsoft’s data centres required highly stable, clean power for mission-critical IT systems. The specifications included:

  • Precise 3-phase isolation to reduce electrical noise
  • High reliability under continuous load
  • Site-specific voltage and capacity requirements
  • Full compliance with Australian standards and Microsoft’s global infrastructure guidelines

Each site included multiple COLO locations, plus an administrative core with heavier power demand. Flexibility, technical accuracy, and fast turnaround were essential.

The Solution

SES Delivers Custom Isolation Transformers with Built-In Intelligence and Safety

SES supplied a tailored range of 3-phase LV isolation transformers, including:

  • 75kVA units for COLO deployments
  • 150–200kVA units for administrative centres
  • Custom add-ons, including temperature sensors wired into windings for integration with alarm systems
  • Offload voltage tapping (±2.5% and ±5%) for on-site adjustability
  • Electrostatic screen with isolated terminal, where required, for safe earthing configuration

Transformers were housed in rugged enclosures with oversized wiring chambers to support additional switchgear, ensuring both flexibility and compliance.

The Outcome

Dependable Power. Seamless Integration. Global Standards Delivered Locally.

SES transformers are now supporting continuous uptime across multiple Microsoft data centre sites in Australia.

These transformers ensure:

  • Uninterrupted power to core infrastructure
  • Noise and harmonic isolation for sensitive server systems
  • Scalability for Microsoft’s expanding cloud footprint
  • On-time delivery, helping contractors hit critical milestones

This project solidified SES as the preferred supplier for tailored, high-spec power solutions in enterprise data environments.
